Robert Downey Jr’s marriage to his wife Susan has been going strong for 18 years, and there’s a simple two-week rule that may be the answer behind their secret.
The Oscar winner met his now-wife on the set of the 2003 movie Gothika, which she produced. They got engaged in November of that same year and tied the knot in 2005 at Long Island, New York. They’ve been going strong ever since, and Robert Downey Jr‘s wife has now revealed all…

Robert Downey Jr credits two-week rule for a successful marriage
Despite their busy schedules, The Oppenheimer star’s wife revealed she and her husband never keep the family apart for more than two weeks at a time.
“We do have a two-week rule, which often feels too long, but we don’t go more than two weeks without seeing each other and the family being together,” Susan, 50, told PEOPLE.
The couple have two children together, son Exton, 12, and daughter Avri, 9. Downey is also father to Indio, 30, from his previous marriage.
Despite the rule, due to the star’s huge acting career, obstacles may come in the way, but they never fail to overcome it.
“You keep the basic rule of two weeks, and then you don’t try and think too far ahead, because so much of what we do is oddly unpredictable,” Susan says.
“Someone might get sick, or there might be a shutdown, or this or that. So you just have to have some basic things in place, and then you have to be willing to flow with the rest of it.”
The producer then says she “really admires” celebrity couples who are both in front of the camera, as flexibility is less of an option for them.
The star said the Oscars ‘felt like his wedding night’

During the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, the 58-year-old picked up his first-ever Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
“We just said, let’s just check in [with each other] tonight, because it was like, you know what this feels like? It’s like our wedding night,” he revealed to PEOPLE after the highly exhilarating night.
However, winning the statue wasn’t the best part of his night, it was in fact, the commercial breaks.
“But the best part of the night — sorry, world — was there was a commercial break and we just touched heads, like two dinosaurs that were letting each other know that we were a couple. And it was great,” he adorably told the publication.
In a moving speech, the Iron Man star thanked everyone, including his wife, and his ‘terrible childhood.’ However, some think he made a ‘dig’ at Marvel as he announced: “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.”
