When I moved into my first solo apartment, I was excited for more space, more independence, and the ability to have full decision-making power over decor. I had always had to compromise some element of my desired design style when previously living with roommates. How does Ruggable work?
When you purchase a rug from Ruggable, you’ll get two pieces: a lightweight rug cover and a non-slip rug pad. The rug cover attaches to the rug pad and can be removed, folded up, and easily thrown in the washer and dryer. Rinse and repeat. The low-pile rugs have a flat yet soft feeling to them which makes them easier to wash and keep clean.
What kind of Ruggable rugs are available?
When I first tried Ruggable a few years ago, the low-pile flatwoven option was the only option. I loved mine for under my dining table (a space that has a higher risk for spills and stains) but wanted something plusher for my living room. If you’ve been thinking about switching to a Ruggable rug, let me make your decision easier by breaking down the pros and cons. Overall, I’d say the pros outweigh the cons but with any big purchase, both sides are important to consider.
Pros

Cons
- The rugs can be difficult to lay out. It can take multiple people to lay the rug cover down on the pad correctly. You will have to frequently smooth the rug down to avoid air bubbles or wrinkles.
- Because of the previous point, the frequency at which you remove the pad and wash it may not be as high as you anticipate.
- If you are opting for the flatwoven rug (which is the easiest to wash) you may be sacrificing some level of softness and comfort.
Living Room Rugs
For my living room, I chose a Ruggable tufted rug with a cushioned pad. The tufted style gave the rug the soft cushioned feel that I was looking for in the living room space. The rug is definitely a lot thicker than the flatwoven option and would need a larger washer/dryer set-up to clean it that way. That being said, it is much easier to clean with regular rug cleaner than previous cushioned rugs I’ve owned.

Bedroom Rugs
For my bedroom, I decided on the classic Ruggalbe low-pile flatwoven rug with the standard rug pad. Since a portion of the bed would be under my bed, I thought a flatter option would be better. The rug was easy to lay down and didn’t interfere with the function of the rolling storage drawers under my bed.
